Finding, applying for and interviewing for jobs is a lot of work and can be difficult. There are organizations in both Portland and Lewiston that offer assistance with each stage of the process.

 

Portland


Career Center

About:  The Greater Portland Career Center offers many different employment assistance and training services for free.

Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services

About:  Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services provides support for job searches. The organization helps with creating a resume, completing a job application, and developing interviewing skills and also provides connections with employers in the community.

Goodwill Workforce Solutions

About:  Goodwill Workforce Solutions has services specifically for youth. Youth Services helps young people find and apply for jobs, and develop skills that they need to be successful once they are employed.

New Mainers Resource Center

About:  The New Mainers Resource Center is located at Portland Adult Education. The organization helps professionals who are new to Maine and who are having trouble finding work in their field.

Street Academy (a program of Portland Adult Education)

About:  Street Academy is a program located at the Preble Street Teen Center that supports homeless youth in gaining an education and employment by helping them enroll in and attend school, making sure they have transportation to school, and providing job training and job placement services. The program also helps youth write resumes and prepare for job interviews.

The Root Cellar

About:  On Fridays from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. staff and volunteers from the Root Cellar work with youth to teach basic work skills. The program also provides help with writing a resume, finding references, and finding a job.

About:  Tree Street Youth’s StreetLeaders Program employs high school youth to be tutors and role models for younger students. The high school Street Leaders receive a stipend.
